Preschoolers are generally curious, talkative, and growing in independence. Their attention span is short—5 to 10 minutes. Their worlds are small: family, playmates, the church. Because of this, the basic concrete experience for preschoolers are the families in which they grow and learn.

To teach preschoolers the Bible, we start with something familiar and real to them and connect it to a new, deeper truth about God and how it applies to their everyday lives. They discover what it means to be part of God’s family and how to live as God’s children. They learn about Creation, the Fall, the promised Savior, God’s faithfulness to his people, and that Jesus was sent because of God’s great love.

All this is designed to point young children to Jesus—that they might believe that he is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing in him they might have eternal life, belonging to the family of God.

Spiritual goals for our preschoolers:

• To know that Jesus died to save us
• To know that God loves us and forgives us
• To know that we are part of God’s covenant family
• To respond to his love with hearts that trust and obey him
